One night, Gray & Nameless learned that helping others is its own reward. And it can be fun!
-
-
Gray & Nameless were excited for a long overdue dinner in Chinatown with their dear friend, Mr. Boo.
-
-
While waiting for the bus, they decided it was such such a nice night out that they should walk.
-
-
Suddenly it seemed like there was Mysterious Writing wherever they looked!
-
-
“Look over here, Gray. Why, it’s everywhere!”
-
-
“It’s as if they contain Secret Messages. Let’s decode one, Nameless!”
-
-
Gray & Nameless concentrated so hard on decoding the Mysterious Writing, it made them dizzy!
-
-
They soon realized that they still had a long walk ahead of them, and if they didn’t hurry they’d be late meeting Mr. Boo at his bus stop. However, they were relieved to take one more little break.
-
-
“Look, here it it! Here comes Mr. Boo’s bus now!”
-
-
But the bus didn’t stop. It kept right on going — and no Mr. Boo!
-
-
They waited a while, but still no Mr. Boo. “It’s unlike him to be late, and it was raining on his side of town. Do you think he’s okay?”
-
-
“We’d better give him a call.”
-
-
It’s a good thing they called when they did: Mr. Boo had taken a nasty spill in the rain as he was leaving, and hurt both his legs! The ambulance was on its way to take him to the hospital.
-
-
Gray & Nameless rushed right over to the hospital, but then hesitated to enter. “It will be sad to see others sick or in pain and not be able to help them, Nameless.” “You’re right, Gray… But we’ll be helping Mr. Boo just by letting him know we’re here for him.”
-
-
They sat in the waiting room with other visitors, and that’s when they got the idea for the perfect way to cheer up Mr. Boo….
-
-
Chinese takeout! They ordered from Mr. Boo’s favorite Chinatown restaurant, and dinner was delivered to them right there in the hospital. Mr Boo was very grateful for Gray & Nameless’s thoughtfulness, and felt better immediately.
-
-
On their way home, Gray & Nameless talked about how being there for Mr. Boo not only made him feel good — it made them feel good, too! So they gave their leftover Chinese food to a poor man on the street who was hungry.
-
-
And they took the time to hold open a big door for a nice lady in a wheelchair. Boy, that wasn’t easy!
-
-
The next morning was unusually bright and sunny, and Gray & Nameless slept especially well after their night of helping others in need. They couldn’t wait to see what the new day had in store for them, and how they might be able to help others!

Comes a time when everyone needs to take off a few pounds, even Gray & Nameless. But it’s so much more fun if you take it outside — and with your best friend!
-
-
On Monday morning, Gray & Nameless were alarmed to see how much weight they’d gained over the Thanksgiving weekend. Knowing that giving snacking and napping (their favorite activities) was out of the question, they pondered their options.
-
-
There was only one thing Gray & Nameless could do: begin an exercise regime. So they went to the local gym.
-
-
They walked on a treadmill…
-
-
…but that quickly became boring and monotonous.
-
-
The balance ball seemed needlessly dangerous. Gray & Nameless decided the gym simply wasn’t the place for them. “Let’s exercise outdoors, in the sunshine and fresh air!”
-
-
And so they went to the local park and tried the fitness course.
-
-
They balanced on bars.
-
-
“Volleyball! Let’s play volleyball!”
-
-
But of course,Gray & Nameless could not play vollyball, for they did not have a vollyball to play with. So they invented a new sport: netclimbing. They found that they were natural-born climbers!
-
-
Tree climbing!
-
-
Rock climbing!
-
-
After all that climbing, they decided on some more relaxing activities. Nameless suggested fishing.
-
-
And Gray suggested her favorite, lizardback riding.
-
-
And when they got home, they enjoyed some HEALTHFUL snacks: grapes…
-
-
…and yogurt…
-
-
… followed, of course, by a well-earned nap!

You don’t have to go very far to find inspirations for some outrageous adventures — chances are they’re right there in your favorite books and television programs!
-
-
Every Wednesday night, Gray & Nameless took turns reading to each other.
-
-
They especially liked books with pictures. They often pretended they were part of the pictures in the books.
-
-
After a while, they realized they were very hungry! Gray suggest they go out for Thai food, since Nameless had never tried it before.
-
-
Not sure what was the best way to get to the restaurant, Gray & Nameless asked their neighborhood fireman, Lt. Mike. Mike suggested they take the MUNI bus.
-
-
Nameless gave Gray a boost so she could look out the window of the bus. “Wow, you can see so much from up here!”
-
-
At the Thai restaurant, Gray & Nameless had to pass through a pretty garden to get to their table.
-
-
“Ooh, let’s start with some hot tea!”
-
-
The brown rice & veggies was very good…
-
-
…but the red curry eggplant was especially tasty — AND SPICY!!!
-
-
From the album: “Chapter 4.5: A Typical Night In San Francisco (a mini adventure)” by The Saga of Gray & Nameless “May we have more water, please? The Sriracha sauce was much hotter than we expected!”
-
-
Nameless was so grateful to Gray for introducing him to Thai food, he picked up the tab!
-
-
When Gray & Nameless got home, they were delighted to find their favorite program on TV: An Adventure Documentary!
-
-
They got to see ships…
-
-
and swamps…
-
-
and crazy sunsets…
-
-
and plains…
-
-
and the ocean…
-
-
and the desert…
-
-
Gray & Nameless were so tired after such a full, fun evening, they fell asleep in front of the TV. Maybe it was all that Thai food right before bed…
-
-
…but the strange dreams began almost immediately. They were swimming with a big goldfish…
-
-
The goldfish wanted to play hide-and-seek!
-
-
“Where could such a big goldfish hide, Gray?”
-
-
The funny thing was, the big goldfish could see Gray & Nameless the whole time!
-
-
The goldfish reminded Nameless of something he’d seen earlier that day…
-
-
…when suddenly, Gray & Nameless found themselves in a most surreal world.
-
-
Things didn’t quite make sense in the surreal world… but that’s what made it fun!
-
-
It was so exciting, Gray & Nameless need to lie down for a catnap.
-
-
When they woke up, they were part of the surreal world too!
-
-
And then a big gust of wind that looked just like a hand blew in a snowstorm…
-
-
…and it blew Gray & Nameless all the way into a snow-covered land! They found shelter in a hidden cave.
-
-
They met a beautiful Snow Princess, and asked her what was the best way for them to get home.
-
-
She told Gray & Nameless they’d have to go through the Mystical Snow Portal, and offered to lead them to it.
-
-
She told them of the legendary Snow Dragon that protects the Portal. “No one has ever seen him, but they say he eats Pups & Princesses!”
-
-
Suddenly, the snow dragon appeared out of nowhere! Gray & Nameless & The Princess were indeed terrified!
-
-
But then the Snow Dragon only looked terrifying. He told a very funny joke…
-
-
…and everyone laughed so hard they fell down!
-
-
The next thing they knew, Gray & Nameless woke up tangled in their living room rug. Which was odd, because the last thing they remembered was dozing off on the chair in front of the TV…

Vulva Fervor: waitin' on the man. Or woman. Or...
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Litquake. If that weren’t exciting enough, I am honored to be introducing the legendary International Secret Agent Vulva Fervor, in her first ever public appearance in San Francisco. Agent Fervor will be kicking off Litquake’s Litcrawl in Clarion Alley by reading an excerpt from her memoirs, The Adventures Of Vulva Fervor. The theme is “Dirty In The Alley: Literature From The Gutter Up”. Vulva is still uncertain why she was asked to read on such a theme, but honored and delighted nonetheless.
Impossibly stylish security detail will be provided by the Mrs. Robinson Society. Frankly I expect the whole event to go down without incident. But there is always the off-chance that Vulva’s stupid sister Viva may make an unexpected appearance. And should that happen, all bets are off as to what could happen.
All of this happens on Saturday, October 17, at 18:00 PST. on Clarion Alley in San Francisco’s Mission District.

“It looks like it’s gonna rain, Nameless. What should we do today?”
-
-
Gray & Nameless considered lots of choices. Like reading…
-
-
and watching movies…
-
-
Nameless said, “I know, let’s listen to records! Here’s the first one I ever bought!”
-
-
DANCE PARTY!!!
-
-
Gray said, “Let’s make up our own song, together! You play the music, and I’ll sing the words.”
-
-
Nameless had a good idea: “Let’s really use our imaginations and pretend we’re sitting around a campfire!”
-
-
And once they started using their imaginations, there was no stopping Gray & Nameless. “That’s not a lampshade — it’s a spaceship…”
-
-
“… an ANTI-GRAVITY SPACESHIP!!!”
-
-
“Look, Nameless… a portal to an exotic, ancient land. Let’s go!”
-
-
Once they arrived in the exotic, ancient land, they met an elephant who’d fallen from his treehouse. He asked Gray & Nameless if they would help him climb back up.
-
-
“Of course we’ll help!” Nameless went first. Gray needed a boost from the elephant.
-
-
“I got you, Gray!”
-
-
Almost there…
-
-
“WE DID IT!” Together, Gray & Nameless pulled the elephant back into his treehouse.
-
-
Having worked up quite an appetite, Gray & Nameless left the exotic, ancient land in search of the land of the future, and its “Magical Hot Food Generator”.
-
-
“We’ve got a problem, Gray. I’m not sure how to activate it.”
-
-
“You turn the knob, Nameless!” But Gray & Nameless had an even bigger problem: deciding what they wanted for supper…
-
-
MEATBALLS!!!
-
-
After supper, Gray & Nameless fell fast asleep for the longest nap ever!
